Maggie, how are you doing?

Maggie,
It's been a while since you've posted. How are you? Is the gemzar working or is it too soon to tell? Have your leg pains decreased at all? I miss seeing you here.

    DEAREST SISTERS:
thank you so much for checking in on me; i so appreciate being thought of. i have been out of commission for the last two weeks with a small intestinal obstruction due to adhesions. i had one before with my first chemo, and problem resolved with an ng tube within 24 hours. not so this time. they kept the the ng tube in for days, thinking it was getting better, but alas, it did not. so i ended up having surgery 5 days ago, and home sunday night. i'm healing well, but i am so damn tired. this seemed like a real shock, so unexpected. at least the surgeon removed all the adhesions and put down some substance that is supposed to **** their growth. plus no new sites of cancer as apparently expected.......

i see my doctor next monday, and we'll talk about where to go from here. i think she still wants to go with the carbo/gemzar, so we'll see. one thing for sure is that i am not going into that chemo room again until i am in tip top condition--too
many things can go wrong if you're not fully healed when you have chemo.

i'm still interested in high dose iv vitamin c, but that seems a long ways off. for now, one foot in front of the other, gaining strength and trying to stay sane. one thing is different: for almost two years now, since dx, i've hardly cried: now i feel like i'm grieving for those i've lost in the last 5 years, for my self, and for all of us who have to go through so much. it feels good, at last, to shed some tears.

    much love to you all,

hope you're all doing as well as can be; i never stop thinking about you.

Glad to see your post. You are a special person.

I cringed thinking of that horrible ng tube and the surgery you had. It sounds like your doctor did a thorough job and I wish you speedy recovery. Glad your tears are cathartic.

    Many blessings, Mary Ann

    sisters:
i really want to hear how you all individually are doing. if you're in treatment, how that is faring, if not, how you're enjoying life. e.g., mary ann, after your difficult treatment, how things are going for you; linda, with your "anti chemo" chemo, avastan, how you're faring on that?and everyone else who asked about me, and those that did not as well. fyi, in inadvertantly responded out of order next to linda's, so look there for where i've been the last couple of weeks.......

Life is slow and good...I work one day and help others through my work - offer discounts and barter with some people, helping someone get on disability (hope we are successful).

I've been practicing tong ren healing - check out tongrenstation.com

I joined a gym and go to yoga several times a week, walk alot too. Most of the time I eat healthy. I putz alot!! I have lists of things to accomplish and check something off once in awhile. I get massages. My husband and are are looking forward to the New Orleans Jazz Fest soon - we went to college there and it's time to return after 43 years!! Where does the time go??

I'm enjoying NOT being in treatment a whole lot. Please join me soon, sister!!!!

    Love, Mary Ann

Maggie so glad you checked in with us
Sorry to hear you were in the hospital though. Hope you can avoid any further bowel obstruction.

I am back in Illinois. The cold weather returned for us, but hopefully it will not last long. I am anxious to get my gardens in shape. I can't believe how everything has grown already. The tulips, daffodils, bleeding heart, lilac and Virginia Blue Bells all welcomed me home.

I am due for my 4th (10th) round of Taxol/Carbo on the 26th. I had a reaction to carbo treatment number 3 (9) so now the carbo has to go over 6 hours. I am looking at a 2 day treatment as the taxol goes over 5 hours - due to reaction early on. I have minimal side effects after the chemo treatments. Luckily I still do not have any neuropathy, and do not suffer the leg pains you have had.

I am able to walk most days for 40 - 60 minutes. I did get to work out in my yard for about 2 hours yesterday. But today it is too windy. My head and neck get really cold in the 40 degree temperatures.

Hope you are recovering from your surgery and the tiredness is getting a little better. Hope you are able to resume your chemo plan soon. In peace and caring.

Well Maggie I was so sorry
Well Maggie I was so sorry to hear of your difficulties - on top of being back in treatment. I do hope things are continuing to improve so you can be back in fighting form soon. But first, rest and recuperate!
I'm awaiting my 3 month appt Tues - with great trepidation as test results have taken a downturn. But I did enjoy a four month chemo break so far and that has been great. Just wish I had been a little proactive in jumping on projects and had accomplished more. I did have to go thru a little additional doom and gloom with an abnormal cardiac US and now get to be seen at the "Heart Failure Clinic" as well. I've asked my Dr there to check with Marketing for a more upbeat renaming - it wasn't helping me feel any better. Although I do know that clogged arteries aren't an issue for me (perfect cardiac CT), and despite great low levels of blood fats from all my good diet and active living, I still have "heart failure" issues. It's ALWAYS something ;-)
    Take care, Maggie, heal well.
