Bleeding issues

I have been doing the cath thing now since Sept 1. I was nice and clear- no scar tissue- on my Jan 3 appointment at U of MI. I am now cathing every 3rd day for March. ON thursday morning I felt a tiny bit of resistence when cathing and i have been bleeding now for three days. Fearing scar tissue is returning I cathed Friday am and this morning. I am so afraid the scar tissue is returning and the AUS surgery is going to get bumped back months now with another OR visit to clear scar tissue and start the whole cath routine agian with months..... I am a bit discouraged with all this. I hope it is just an irritated urethra lining that is bleeding. And it CAN'T be cancer- no way.

    Monday- Day 5
Still bleeding. I called my doc at the U of MI this afternoon, but probably too late to get a response.

How much blood? well, I have enough bleeding and clotting to actually make a plug that has stopped the dripping pretty much all day. When i do pee I have to push and the first thing out is quite a bit of blood and clots and then urine. the toilet bowl is often red.

I am sure this is from the cathing and probably returning scar tissue at the bladder neck where I had the original scarring problem.

Certainly some one else has been through this?

Did you go to the ER?
I don't (and hope I never) have any experience like you've described but, if I were you, I would have headed to the ER a long time ago.

Hope your situation improves. Good luck!

    Day 6
I was up this morning at 4:30 and peed blood.
Enough blood to make the bowl red. The blood is both dark and bright red.
I am concerned now. This morning I will most likely hear from U of MI or I will call my local uro and see what he thinks.
You guys with the scar tissue issues in the urethra- who did the cath routine- did you ever have anything like this?

    bleeding
Trew , I had some pretty heavy bleeding way back. but after I started cathing I would frequently get some, not a lot, but some bleeding as I removed the cath. I may have turned the bowl red once or twice in a 3-4 month period but nothing to the extent your describing. I think you are probably correct in that you have torn some scar tissue. I will run by you one more time just for your consideration, ask your urologist about a Urolink stent. Biggest problem is it is all or nothing when you get one. The 800 must work there is no going back. I guess my strictures were such that the doc knew that he was not going to be able to guarentee that they would not re-occur. The other thing is this would probably make you a double cuff type cause the flow is maxed out. So far so good here. I have put a couple of quater size spots in my skivvies not enough to require a pad so far.
I wouldn't worry about it being cancer either, histoy says its scar tissue. wishing you the best.

My uro at the U of MI wants
My uro at the U of MI wants to see me tomorow- I get another scope. Exciting. I'll ask about a stent. I am sure it is scar tissue, too, and this afternoon, after all that fuss and the doc appointment and all it looks like the blood flow is letting up some.

    Don't Worry
Today is the 8th day of bleeding, but it is not as heavy as it was 3 days ago. And I now do not have that sense of dread and panic I was getting. It has been an interesting week- and i got an unscheduled scoping tossed into the middle of the week, too. You all know how much fun those scopes can be! I tell you, I am getting so much more out of my prostate cancer then some of you. I almost hesitate to post this stuff for fear some of you might feel you are missing out on something special.

I hear they have a new version of the AUS coming out. When you press the on button, not only do you pee, but you get to hear the song, "Don't Worry, Be Happy."

I dont know how you can

    Trew

I dont know how you can handle all you have been given. They say He wont give you more on your plate than you can handle, you must have a large plate is all I can say, that and I wish you a speedy recovery to this all very very soon.

    Marc, thank-you
But I confess, sometimes my plate seems very small to me.

I will be alsolutely bonkers until I am cleared for surgery. today I did the cath thingie- down to about once every 5- 6 days for April. I hope that was not some resistence I felt this afternoon. I am so nervous about all this. I have been cathing since Sept 1- I am so ready to toss the few caths that remain. Or maybe cut them into shorter lengths and use then for, forget me I just could not resist..... use them for pee, ah, pea shooters.

    ;)
