@Baldy - We are on the same path. Thyrogen on 4/1 & 4/12, RA on 4/13. I started my LID last Monday 3/21. Not as bad as thought .... I am still trying for variety in the 'breakfast' thing....

2nd shot today
I had the second shot today and decided to use my right arm, my left is a bit sore and tender from the first shot yesterday.
I did have a bit of nausea yesterday and crossing my fingers that is all the side effects to come from this drug. We shall see, it's only been an hour since the shot.
And thank you all for your support, it really means a lot

Variety, you bet. I went to the grocery store today looking for anything I can add that is different. Unfortunately, my standard grocery store is just that, "standard". I couldn't even find unsalted mixed nuts! There is a much better stocked one about 40 minutes away that I'm going to visit sometime this week. I like my carbohydrates and I'm finding very little that I can eat in that group. I'm going to get some matzah and whatever else I can find.

I started to get a little nervous yesterday about the scan but then remembered that it is not going to tell me too much that I don't already know. I know I still have cancer somewhere, my last few lab reports indicated that. But we just don't know where and how much. I had a CT scan but that didn't show anything. And the ultrasound of my neck didn't show anything either, other than scar tissue. So we are pushing my 1 year scan up a few months to try and find this nasty little thing.
This scan is to give us a better understanding of what the next step in my game will be.0 -

I had my shots in the butt. I think it hurts less.

Arm or butt, either comes as a surprise to me. I assumed {yes I know what that makes me} they would start an IV and put it directly into a vein. Of course starting an IV can be unpleasant too. Though before each of my ops I was somewhat dehydrated which makes it harder to get a good vein.
If I remember, I will ask the shooter what my options are. I tend to forget stuff when in the presence of medical types, which is why I usually write all my questions down before hand.

But both arms are just a little tender right now, not too bad.
I have read a lot on the drug and it can only be injected into a muscle. And on some sites it stressed that it should not be delivered via a vein.
And I think I would prefer a shot over a vein, short and quick. But boy do I hate needles.

Amen, I've been poked at least two dozen times in the last three months, but I still have to be at least semi-prone or I'm out like a light.
I also prefer a shot to an IV, but I was hoping they'd start an IV Monday and leave it in until they were done Wednesday. I have two shots and two blood tests ... IIRC. I'd rather have one IV then four pokes. Oh well, so much for that hope.
I hope the Thyrogen isn't as bad as the tetanus booster I had this fall, my arm was sore for days.0 -

Hi Everyone!
I would definitely recommend the Thyrogen shots in the glute (upper hip area) muscle. I have had six of them during my treatments and never had soreness at all. The larger the muscle the less pain involved. I know this from experience after having six of them but also because I give shots to patients many times in a day. Thyrogen should be done IM (intramuscular).
Tetanus IS a painful injection Craig. Almost every patient I have ever given one has had soreness from the injection. It's due to the vaccination, not so much the needle. It's common to have redness, swelling and even a bit of warmth at the injection site. Some even experience a slight fever. It goes away within three to five days typically. Here is a word of advise for anyone getting an injection; I always have my patients try to relax the muscle as much as possible, make it like Jello ( I know this is hard when you know a needle is coming at you). But this will help reduce the pain of the needle. When the muscle is tense the needle will make a larger hole upon relaxation thus causing more soreness and pain. I hope this helps someone. I know it's no fun getting an injection (and no fun giving them-believe me) but I hope I helps ease the pain for at least one person. I have several patients that always request that I give them their injections because they rarely feel it. The needle should go straight into the skin and straight out. Moving the needle is another factor in the cause of painful injections so be very still and relaxed while getting your injections.

Here's an update, not much but something.
I took the radiation pill Wednesday and I should be good to go for my scan later today at 2:30.
So far the only side effects were just a bit of soreness in the arm from the injections (use more meat and less soreness should happen, thanks Julie), and a bit of nausea. But nothing from the radiation, way too small to do anything
But I'm going straight for pizza after the scan And then to the Pub Run. We are doing a fundraiser for American Cancer Society tonight during the run. If you live in or around San Antonio you should join us, it's tons of fun.
I'll update on the results of the scan this weekend. Fingers crossed.0 -

You go girl! You must really be an energetic person to be going on a pub run after all this.....I pray things turn out well and know you are looking forward to pigging out on that pizza! Our group raised over $36,000. There are several relays all over the country this weekend so if our group raised that much, can you imagine how much the entire country will raise? I finally had my pizza and the best chocolate milkshake ever on Friday. Pub run was a blast. It was a friends 2 year birthday of her breast cancer diagnoses, we all had on pink for her and then our ACS determination colors. My one year is right around the corner on April 13th.
My scan came back clear which is good news, but it is somewhat stressful still since I know from my labs that the cancer is still there but still don’t know where. But at least it is not localizing and growing big! Just microscopic.
I have one more set of labs that I'm waiting on and then we will make a decision as to what the next step is.0
