Penny - New Dog?

Penny:

Sorry if I haven't kept up with things too much. I noticed your new profile picture of that gorgeous German Shephard. Is that a new dog?

I've had two German Shephards in my life. Both were just the best of dogs. They were so smart. All they wanted to do was please me & Paul and protect the kids. I lost our Shephard mix in Nov. 2009. That really broke my heart. Now I have a Bassett, Beagle, Dachshund. Fox Hound mix. She is very loving and a good companion but is not one tenth as smart as my Shephards were. She's also very stubborn.

I must say though that Jessie has gotten me through a lot of dark days. I don't know what I'd do without out the crazy hound. I really love her.

What's your dog's name?

Skipper

    Thinking about it
    Skipper,
I've been thinking about getting a dog. Just to have someone greet me when I come home and wagging their tail would be great!!! After reading your post, I'm one step closer I think. I'm thinking of a maltese-yorkie mix. Fell in love with my friends and can't convince them to give him up so hope I can find one as cute.
Just having someone to snuggle with at night would be nice. Wouldn't want Tom to think a dog replaced him cause that could never happen.
I'll let you know if I find a puppy. They say don't go through a pet shop so need to find a breeder. Take care! Carole

    Yup
@ Skipper-I got this dog from the local German shepherd rescue. She had been kept outside on a chain and beaten. She's pretty skittish around most people, especially men. She took to me right away tho and has been an absolute dream.

@Carole--Go For It! My house doesn't seem empty; even though I still have my psycho kitty, she wasn't quite as good of a companion. My dog Zena has been greeting me with welcome home kisses and has been getting me outside for walks. She ids completely housebroken and crate trained, no chewed up shoes so far. Check your local rescues. Everyone was telling me how special rescued dogs are, now I see why. Its almost like they know and appreciate the second chance. I don't regret the decision at all.

I agree with Penney. Check out the local rescue groups. Your Vet may be able to help you out. Rescues are the BEST pets. They are so appreciative for every bit of love you give them that they give back twice as much. Let us know how it goes.

Since I'm looking for a "Morkie" which is a mix between a maltese & a yorkshire terrier I don't think a shelter is the place I'd find one. I'm afraid of pet shops cause you hear so many of them get their dogs from puppy mills, so trying to find a breeder. And I'm really still not sure I want all the work that comes with owning a dog.
I'll let you know what happens, I promise! Carole
