Biopsy schduled for St Patricks Day

No green beer for me..My Pet scan came back and my mouth was lite up like a xmas tree. No where else. Not in lymph nodes or throat or rest of body..all clear there. 8 weeks out of radiation for surgury on parotid gland (Sept 2010) but lite up. Voice box and surrounding tissue swollen. He says from radiation. and he found 4-5 hard spots in tongue. Which biopsy said was clear in Sept. So back in for more biopsies. I guess this will tell the story.
I'm maxed out on radiation now.2X. So this means major surgury..I guess. It shocks me how 5 or so tumors can grow in 4-5 months and while rads going on. Has anyone else had this happen. Or anything like it ???? My ENT is a great doc but am going to see if I can get into Moffitt here in Tampa. Insurance might hold that up--not sure. Any info would be helpful. Thanks Rose

    Biopsy
Hoping the biopsy comes back clean and the only thing that was lighting up were caused by the rads.

    Radiation lighting up
That is what I am hoping. That because you have had radiation twice that is giving you a false positive.

Best if luck on your biopsy.

    Praying . . .
That scan is so soon after completion of radiation that it is false positive.

    Thoughts with you.

    Hi Rose
I too am maxed out on radiation, twice to the head, and had chemo once. I had lit up every PET scans I did from back in 2006 till last week at MD Anderson. If what they tell me is true and I still have cancer, I must be the longer living person with cancer as I have heard this for almost 6 years now. I tell the doctors OK show me the tumor; I lit the PET but where is the tumor.

You like me will light up every PET you do because of the amount of radiation your body has absorb in the cell walls and scar tissue is enormous. If you take a biopsy it will come back positive unless the pathologist knows you have has radiation twice, then he will call it a suspect area.

Get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion before you do anything else may friend and save yourself some trouble.

    Take care

    WOW
Hondo, I was glad to see your post. My ENT is very suspicious of excess activity too and he tends to be very cautious. Good I think. But, to see you say it made me feel a little better. I just couldn't understand how so much could grow so fast and while I'm still having rad. I will take your advice and do a lot of double checking. The pathologist that works with my ENT made several comments in his report indicating false positives too.
I'll post my results when I get them and I hope you'll tell me what you think too.
Thanks again. By the way, does our body ever clear itself of radiation or is that forever. Also, do we lite up airport screening?? Curious. Rose
