    Hi
This site really isn't for dispensing medical advice at all but there may be some people who do take supplements and they may chime in with what they've done and the results they've had. I try to just eat better, I'm not big on supplements. Have you talked with your oncologist? I do know many are not real big on it but sometimes there can be bad interactions and taking mega-doses are not good either. I know you didn't say you were taking them but it's just something to remember.
    Best of luck

It depends if you are in treatment or not
You need to check with your onc. Many major cancer centers now have Integrative Medicine units that can advise you.

I know that I was told to cut down on anti-oxidants while on chemo; they counter the chemo (see Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center website on herbs and supplements) - the only supplement I took was B6.

Often what's good for you is also good for cancer cells, and you don't want to make them stronger.

    Suggestion
    Hi there,

There's an excellent reference called Beating Cancer with Nutrition by Patrick Quillin who gives wonderful suggestions for supplements depending on your cancer type in conjunction with your treatment type.

Those of us with colorectal cancer most likely are suffering from digestive problems and I personally have found it most helpful to take probiotics and digestive enzymes no matter what kind of vitamins I may also take on and off. I have also read that flax oil is a good cancer fighter. And most doctors like us to up our Vit D especially if you live in northern climes (like I do). They have linked a Vit D deficiency with colon cancer.

These are ones that always stay on my own protocol. When I was first healing my cancer with alternatives (no chemo for my Stage III colon) I took a ton of supplements and herbs under the care and guidance of a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and a Naturopathic doctor. It really helps to seek a professional who is very knowledgeable about alternative cancer healing nutrition.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi bspangler
You should consult with you oncologist. But I can tell you that my oncologist agrees with me on my diet and supplements. I'm on the folfox and erbitux chemo. I'm juicing all natural. Daily 2-3 glasses a day. Carrots, apples, oranges, Kale, beets 1/4beet per juice. vitamins I take B-12, B-complex, D-3, Womans one a Day and L-carnitene for neuropathy. My blood levels are great. My immune system is working well. I haven't needed my nuelasta vaccine, which builds up blood cells from your bone marrow. and its not a fun one. It feels like I have the flu. My oncologist just does't want me taking Vit. C or E. But I get plenty of vit c and antioxidents with the juices. I also cut out alot of red meat. and no hotdogs or fast food. Eat a lot of fish and chicken, tuna, veggies, rice squashes and other fruits as well besides the juices. I heard teas are not good for the red blood cells. I hope this helps. Blessings from Lourdes.

    Thanks for the suggestion
    Emily,

Thanks for the suggestion. I will be researching where I live to see what I can find. A neighbor told me a relative took natural remedies for cancer, and didnt have any probelms. My dr did prescribed Vit D along with calicum. He also prescribed Lactobacillus (Acidophilus).

Currently I am not taking any treatments I finished with that last year. I do have probelms or issues with my digestive system. Along with my kidneys. I will also get some information regarding supplements for my kidneys.

    Thanks Again

Thanks. Currently not having treatments. Finished in Sept/Oct 2009. I do have to go to the oncology floor every six months to receive medication because I have lost 11% of bone densisty.

    Hi
Thanks P. Yes spoke to my oncologist. He seems okay with it since I am not receiving any treatments since Sept/Oct 2009. I do take Lactobacillus every day and it seems to help. I have probelms with my digestive system and now with my kidneys.

    our starting point for CRC
I think one of the more science based supplement guides free on the net for CRC starts with LEF's discussions on cancer and protocols for colon cancer. We've lagged in a few areas because of unfamiliarity or sensitive stomach, and regret not doing them sooner. Others refer to Patrick Quillian's book.

Any supplement regimen should be customized for the individual. Supplement use is changed by specific chemotherapy, too.

We use more vitamins and nutrients, based on other papers. There are some reports of B2, pyridoxamine (a B6 form, also a new drug in the US), natural E (mixed or high gamma tocopherols), coQ10 being useful factors that we have used in some kinds of kidney issues(another LEF ref for kidneys).

    My List
    Hi Barbara,

I have gone down the Diet and Supplements path and use 3 Naturopaths. For my list, check my 'Expressions' page and the 'About Me' topic page. Benefits have been great. While mine is probably a fairly generic list most people could use, I do recommend to you have professional guidance to allow for any personal tailoring you may need.

Mine are mostly antioxidants and vital organ boosting supplements and stuff to help the body assimilate and maximize the value of the foods I take in.

    Hope this helps.

Check out Dr. Oz or the wellness community
Check out Dr. Oz or the wellness community, they both have good information on vitamins for cancer patients and/or high risk people.

My Doc recommended me to take vitamin D, K, B-12, Omega 3, and Probiotics. My blood work was good until I started receiving Chemo. (Other then B-12) Make sure your supplements are made in the USA or Canada. Other countries do not have the quality control. Look at how many tainted products came from China.

    Best Always, mike

    An integrative med MD recommended
that I take GI Revive for a month to help restore the mucosal lining of my intestines. That, in conjunction with pro-biotics has made an enormous difference - my gut is now completely "normal".

GI Revive is either a powder (one teaspoon sprinkled on food daily) or in capsules (7 capsules daily), and is sold in 1 month quantities - 1 container of powder or 1 bottle of 210 capsules. I hated the taste of the powder, tho many people love it. Thus I tracked down the capsules. It contains all sorts of gut-soothing naturals.

Analysis, quality assurance and repackaged in USA or Canada...

Simply a lot of stuff is made in China or India without much remaining competition here. Vitamin C is almost surely Chinese, unless they paid several times extra for some from the single remaining European plant. The US vitamin C plants have all been offline for years. The Chinese did legitimately invent and develop several biotechnologies to reduce their cost of manufacture.

Another skirmish in the great Sino-American trade war. Our manufacturers lost. Again. However, the expanding Chinese production has persistently dropped the wholesale price of vitamin C, so consumers may have an opportunity. I've seen retail vitamin C bulk packed in plastic bags like sugar for as low as $4.50 per pound in baking supplies store, in places closer to China.
