Is the port on the same side
Is the port on the same side of your surgery and did you have lymph nodes removed on that side? Swelling can be a sign of lymphedema if the surgery was done on that side. Definitely ask the doctor what he thinks the cause may be. Call him today and get the answers you need. I've had my port for over a year and had no problems with it. Something doesnt sound right and you shouldnt have to be stressed over this. Praying fyou get the answer you need.

You have every right to know.
If they aren't anymore help than that, you might need to find another doctor. You have a right to know what is going on and preferably before it causes any permanent damage. It's their job to know what is causing your arm to swell and to communicate their findings and a solution to the problem. I hope you get the answers you need and the swelling goes down soon.

    Yes--be the squeaky wheel
Demand an appointment. If they are not accommodating, I would start at the ER. This may be nothing, but I wouldn't let it go. Oh, and if they're not accommodating, I'd start looking for another doctor. It never hurts to check things out. I always go on my gut instinct.

I'm hoping you get results. Check back in and let us all know what's going on. Good luck.

    Hugs, Renee

    Squeaky wheel
Thank you Renee, I am new at this, but to make a long story short. I did go to ER and my doctor ordered an ultrasound and didn't find anything. So thinking it's the Port, but they are not for sure. My arm isn't getting better if anything worse, so just really frustrated. Tues. I go back for chemo and see my doctor, so hopefully it will be ok till then. I'll let you know. Hugs back, Nanette

    Answer would be nice
Thank you Jamie, I am feeling the same way, very frustrated, that they not finding a solution. When I went to ER and got an ultrasound they didn't find a blood clot but they are treating me for one. Did you ever here of Herceptin causing swelling? The doctor is taking the port out in 2 weeks, thinking all will be fine but I don't think I can wait that long if it is the port. This has helped, just found this the other day. Thank you again. Hugs, Nanette

    arm swollen on port side
I"ve had a port in since April, 2010- had it through chemo and then they left it in for the remaining Herceptin treatments- which I"m still having. Never had swelling. Press you dr. to get answers!!
It would be advisable to leave the port in for your Herceptin treatments to spare your arm.

    Good Luck!
