    NERVOUS TOO
I was very nervous yesterday before the cleaning. Actually I only had 2 very small spots where my gum or tooth right at the gum line was senitive. My dentist told me from his experience, he usually sees damage from radiation fairly quickly. He said upon exam, my teeth looked great. I then also reminded him of our little nuclear gift that keeps on giving.

On the flipside, how the hell are ya??

Nothin' to complain about......but I still do. Actually doing pretty well. Energy level is high and probably keeping busier than before c. Work is still an issue with me as I'm averaging well over 55 hours a week. Just not into the corporate politics and everything that goes with it. I guess I'll learn to like my job again or will find something less stressful. If that's the worst of my issues, I got it lucky.

I have a few phsyical issues - super cold, only at certain times of the day (thyroid??) and thought I'd try accupuncture to try and help with saliva. Will probably start a new thread on those and get everyone's opinion.

Waiting for that warm weather to hit!

    ENERGY LEVEL
Did you find plain old time or exercise to be more of a factor in increased energy levels.

I made it to the gym twice this week and it really wore me out. The night of my second day at the gym, I fell asleep watching tv at 7:45.

Good to hear you are feeling better all the time.

Yes, the cold weather stops me dead in my tracks.

    Chicken or the egg?
Kinda the age old question. I think as time got further along I had a little more energy and with that energy I would try and exercise more which gave me more energy so I was able to work out a litte more which............Oh you get the picture. Time for sure helped, but working out and increasing it little by little helped as well. Wasn't a powerlifter like you, but did do heavy weights prior. I'm up to what I'd call medium weights 3 days a week now along with walking 4-6 miles a pop twice a week (bad knee, can't run) and even throwing in TaiChi once a week.

But I am in bed by 9 pm every nite now versus staying up to 11 or 12 before.

Met with Cancer Dentist Yesterday Also
I had my second post treatment visit with the Cancer dentist at Shands Cancer Ctr. here in Florida yesterday. We also met prior to the start of rads and chemo and the joint decision was to leave my teeth as is, even though my molars had several amalgam fillings and I had a partial plate on top. From day 1 she has emphasized the use of floride trays on a daily basis. I have followed those guidelines for the past eleven months and she felt that is the key to reduced problems in the future. That along with regular visits to my own dentist for periodic cleanings.

I currently use Prevident 1.1% sodium floride which is prescribed but she said that the over the counter product Gelcam also works. The down side of the otc is that some people feel it stains their teeth.

Keep a smile through it all,

more teeth jaw and saliva questions
    Teeth:
Has anyone tried Trident Extra Care with Recaldent? My husband found on wikipedia that Recaldent is the same ingredient that is in the GC Mousse that Scam recommends - a casein derived ingredient.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recaldent

Joe ordered the GC Mousse and it came direct from Australia. He hasn't started using it but he is going to, and also going to start using Trident Extra Care Gum during the day.

Does anyone know more about Recaldent?

    Saliva:
Joe has some saliva after rads (luckily), and I think is able get a little more saliva by chewing Biotene Gum (and the other Biotene products everyone here mentions). He also sucks on sugar free lemon drops. One of his oncologists said this would help increase saliva production.

Has anyone had luck increasing saliva with other methods?

    One last question:
Does anyone know if there are tests Joe can do now (he is only a few months post treatment) to determine how much saliva he lost and how much jaw/bone damage he had from the rads? Or could it be 2+ years down the road that his teeth start having more issues?

Let me know if I should post this as a separate discussion thread - I saw other posts today on flouride. Personally, can see both sids of the flouride argument.

    Thanks!

    Scam
Hi Scam, I've located a source for the GC tooth mousse in Bangkok and will give it a try. Do you use it in conjunction with the flouride trays or in place of them? Cheers

I don't use fluoride trays at all. I floss frequesntly, use a sonic toothbrush and Pro-namel toothpaste and then the GC Mousse at night. Hope this helps Mate.
